Global Corporate Giving Initiative:
Release of Global Valuation Guidance

Until now, there has not been a high-level of clarity on a corporate consensus regarding a globally-relevant definition of what qualifies as a corporate contribution with a societal benefit, confounding corporate philanthropy measurement across countries. 

To close this gap, over the past year CECP has been reviewing giving practices in 17 countries with high concentrations of Fortune Global 500 companies, with the assistance of professionals from Deloitte and its network of international member firms, to develop a framework to serve as the accepted corporate measurement standard for valuing social investment across cultural contexts.  This session provides the first look at valuation guidance that will lead to a benchmarking survey on multinational giving which is sure to transform how companies discuss and track giving across borders.

Using Social Media to Engage Customers and Employees
We are several years into the social media revolution, but it can nonetheless be a challenge to determine when and how to put this powerful two-way communication tool to effective use. 

Panelists will discuss when, why, and how to create an online community using social media, how to set the right expectations internally and externally for what return can be expected on the investment, and how to break down silos between the philanthropy and marketing department (for consumer-facing programs) or HR department (for employee-focused programs) to get it done. And once you have created a community, how do you keep them meaningfully engaged?  How do you turn that engagement into action?

II. Reputational Return of Community Engagement

One of the most powerful ways that community investment programs can support business strategy happens to also be the most elusive: providing a return on reputation. A top editor at Fortune Magazine will lead a discussion with representatives from two companies that have researched the correlation between awareness of their companies’ citizenship programs and the overall favorability among key stakeholder groups and a global public opinion expert who will share frameworks for measuring the impact of community programs on reputation and tips for how companies can leverage these tools.

Nonprofit Leaders Panel: Partnership Models that Work
      

Collaboration across sectors is essential for progress on society’s most intractable problems, but bringing to life corporate-nonprofit partnerships that work effectively and efficiently often presents real challenges on both sides.  The field is learning from these experiences, and relationships between institutions is growing increasingly sophisticated to include joint problem-solving on issues such as: measuring impact, scaling solutions, co-creating programs, leveraging employee volunteers, and balancing unrestricted and programmatic funding. These keynote panelists are leading the re-thinking of partnership and will share their views on what’s working, what’s not, and the models that they believe show the most promise.

ReENTRY," American Records Theater Company

 Actors from this acclaimed troupe will share a scene from the play "ReENTRY," which explores the challenges faces by US Marines when re-entering family, community and country. Performed extensively at military bases and hospitals, the play is based entirely upon interviews with Marines and their families.

I. What Makes a Winning Excellence Awards Application?

Award recognition can be a terrific source of visibility for your company’s philanthropic efforts, but committing time to the application process is often a challenge in light of many other demands on your time.  Even if your company does not plan to submit an Award application, it can be invaluable to understand the “dos and don’ts” when communicating about your company’s good works.

In this session, a cross-sector panel of jurors for this year’s CECP Excellence Awards will share their candid advice and feedback from the scoring and discussion process that led to this year’s slate of Award winners—including general advice on how to “tell your story” in an authentic manner.  In addition to a brief presentation by CECP covering the mechanics of the application process and CECP’s four pillars of excellence, jurors will discuss what they look for in the written application, as well as the elements of program design that make programs truly stand out from the crowd.

II. The Global Corporate Giving Initiative:            
Coming Together on Next Steps

Building on the release of the Global Valuation Guidance earlier in the day, this interactive session will provide insight into how this new standard will be used by the corporate community to tell the story of the magnitude of what businesses are doing individually and collectively with grant-making in communities around the world. Those currently responsible for cross-border grantmaking or who share an interest in the future of the practice are encouraged to join this session, which will be used as the launching point for the development of an online reporting and benchmarking system designed specifically for corporate giving.  Add your voice to the discussion of what comes next, and network with others at the forefront of international giving and the experts who worked on the country-by-country guidance that underlies the valuation work.
