Alcoa Foundation Announces Sustainability Investments on International Corporate Philanthropy Day: Total Investment of $7 Million to Reduce, Recycle, Replenish
As the world celebrates International Corporate Philanthropy Day, Alcoa Foundation has announced a new $7 million investment to address regional environmental challenges, improve energy efficiency and enhance global reforestation projects. The investment aligns with Alcoa Foundation’s sustainability focus: ‘Reduce, Recycle, Replenish,’ and will engage employees and communities where Alcoa operates to enhance the environment.

Campbell Soup Company Unveils Ten-Year Plan To Reduce Childhood Obesity And Hunger In Camden
On February 16, Campbell Soup Company (NYSE:CPB) unveiled a plan to reduce childhood obesity and hunger in Camden, Campbell’s home since 1869. The company will invest $10 million over ten years with the goal of reducing childhood obesity and hunger in Camden’s 23,000 children by 50 percent.

Campbell’s President and CEO and CECP Member Douglas R. Conant said, “Obesity is a national crisis, but it is even more acute in Camden. We absolutely believe this important effort can nourish the lives of thousands of Camden children, both physically and emotionally, and help prepare them for a productive future.”

In 2010, The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc. announced a new strategy to improve Hartford, Connecticut’s Asylum Hill neighborhood for local residents and employees. The Hartford, headquartered in Hartford, Connecticut, partnered with the city and Asylum Hill community organizations to commit $7 million in contributions over five years to key revitalization projects and strategic partnerships. This commitment will provide funding for education, community support services and neighborhood revitalization through long-term partnerships with critical stakeholders and nonprofit organizations in Asylum Hill.

In February 2011, the HSBC Climate Partnership celebrated the achievements of its pioneering five-year program to create long-term environmental and commercial value.  The HSBC Climate Partnership is one of the largest corporate employee engagement programs on climate change – a $100 million partnership with four global environmental nongovernmental organizations: The Climate Group, Earthwatch Institute, Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute and World Wildlife Federation.

Ray McDaniel, Moody’s CEO, sent an email to Moody’s offices worldwide recognizing ICPD and applauding the 1808 employees (44% of global staff) who participated in corporate sponsored volunteer programs in 2010, a 46% increase from 2009.

Impacting Student Achievement through a Signature Service-Learning Program
State Farm® is celebrated International Corporate Philanthropy Day by sharing a grant opportunity that is helping to change the world of education and impacting student achievement.   Applications were accepted for State Farm Youth Advisory Board service-learning grants in areas that the State Farm Youth Advisory Board chose as issues that are important to teens and young adults—driver safety, access to higher education/closing the achievement gap, financial literacy, natural and societal disaster preparedness, and environmental responsibility.  And, these grants are substantial – ranging from $25,000 to $100,000.
