On October 8, 2005, a devastating 7.6 magnitude earthquake rocked the mountainous regions of South Asia. To date, more than 74,000 lives have been claimed. The people who survived this disaster face a desperate situation. As the harsh mountain winter approaches, they are in dire need of food, medical treatment and supplies, and adequate shelter.
The needs for the victims of this tragedy are enormousso great that on October 27, President George W. Bush asked us to launch a nationwide effort to encourage private and corporate donations.
We are extremely proud of what the public, business community and our government have contributed in response to this disaster. Yet, we must do more to avert an overwhelming loss of life in this region. We call upon each of you to give as generously as possible to ensure that disaster relief organizations can continue to provide humanitarian aid to individuals and communities where it is needed most.
Together, we will make a great difference in the lives of thousands. Thank you.
